We are proud to announce that KD Conservatory’s very own Motion Picture Production Chair, Dennis Bishop, has recently received the Lone Star Film Festival Commitment to Texas Award. Bishop was honored with the award during the LSFF Filmmaker Awards dinner on Saturday, November 10th at the 6th Annual Lone Star Film Festival in Fort Worth, TX.

The Lone Star Film Festival Commitment to Texas Award was established to honor those who have shown dedication and commitment to supporting the film community within Texas. Without question, Bishop has been an outstanding advocate for Texas’ film community throughout his accomplished career, from championing Texas (and Texans) as vital to the movie industry to giving back to the local film community through charitable donations of his time and expertise in various industry organizations throughout the state.

“It’s really an honor to be associated with this award and the recipients that preceded me. It means a lot to have your peers recognize you,” said Bishop of receiving the award. “I’m very much committed to the people of the Texas film industry. Many years ago when I was building my career here, people stepped up to help me and change the way things were done. I want to pass it forward to help people as they helped me.”

Bishop, a native of Dallas, has worked on numerous award-winning and critically acclaimed projects. He has overseen production for such works as the Academy Award winning The Trip to Bountiful, NASCAR: The IMAX 3D Experience, and the pilot episode for the Showtime hit series, Dexter. Bishop is currently involved in producing the upcoming The Starck Project, a documentary covering the cultural impact of the iconic Dallas music venue and nightclub, The Starck Club.

In addition to his filmmaking projects, Bishop is also an active member of the Producers Guild of America, Directors Guild of America, Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, as well as a board member of the Dallas Producers Association. He has also contributed his time and resources as a moderator, panelist or advisor to various festivals both within Texas and throughout the country, including South by Southwest and the Sundance Film Festival, and for numerous years served as Director of the Lone Star Film Festival.

As KD Conservatory Motion Picture Production Chair, Bishop’s talent, experience and expertise is helping to mold the next generation of successful filmmakers.
