KD Conservatory offers a variety of classes for teenagers taught by working entertainment industry professionals. The programs cover all facets of the subject matter, giving the student a solid foundation from which to begin or continue work in the entertainment industry. Just as importantly, they give teens a sense of confidence to express themselves and a sense of personal accomplishment.

Teens have busy schedules, so our 8 week courses are offered on weekends only, year round. For those interested in summer programs, we offer Summer Camps for Children & Teens.

Payment plans are available for all short course classes. A $100 deposit is required upon enrollment to hold your spot in the class. This deposit will be applied toward the cost of the class. The remaining balance must be paid in equal payments and paid in full by the 5th class.

Improv For the Actor for Teens

Steven Kavner’s Improv For the Actor is a unique class for Young People ages 12-17 where you will learn to loosen up, free yourself, and think on your feet. Each exercise and experience will be used to make you a more accomplished and smart actor allowing you to stand out in any situation. As we advance, characters, scenes, and stories will also be created. These are tools that will help you no matter the future path you take!

 

Media Broadcast & Career Dimensions Workshop with Amy Vanderoef

Career-Dimensions-Workshop

This course will teach individuals how to use pictures and video for self-promotion via social media, and in turn, will help develop their personal brand while gaining invaluable on-camera instruction. Class includes a brief phone consultation following, where Amy will offer personal feedback.

 

Introduction to Television Commercials – ITVTEEN

Introduction to Television Commercials

Designed to help in all aspects of making television commercials, this course begins with a discussion of technical terms, scoring copy, basic guide lines for copy interpretation and introduction to camera technique. In each class students are videotaped as they rehearse a wide array of commercial copy. Course work includes cold reading and audition techniques.

 

Advanced Television Commercials – TVWTEEN

Introduction to Television Commercials

This course builds on what is learned in Introduction to Television Commercials. Throughout each class, students are videotaped as they rehearse a wide variety of commercial copy from slice of life, bite and smile, spokesperson to industrials. Course work will include cold readings, audition techniques for the camera, teleprompter and audio prompter

Prerequisites for this class – Introduction to Television Commercials or upon approval from Admissions Representative.

 

Introduction to Acting – IACTTEEN

Introduction to Acting

This class focuses on developing the basics of acting through work with a partner. Students will be developing and perfecting scenes by applying various approaches and techniques. The work will include: reacting and listening skills, character development, improvisation, partner work and script analysis.

 

Teen Scene Study – TEENSS

Scene Study

This advanced class delves deeper into the art of acting and teaches students to break down material to an emotional level and act from the heart. Students learn to breakdown material to understand what they are saying and doing. Exercises are taught for getting out of the head and into the heart, moment to moment, character development, transitions, motivation and script analysis.

 

Teen Camera Acting – CAMACTTEEN

Teen Camera Acting

This course works on specialized techniques of acting for film and television. The course material covers the difference between close-ups, over-the-shoulder, medium and long shots, along with techniques for hitting marks, continuity, and staying in frame.

Advanced Teen Camera Acting – ADVTEENCAM

Advanced Teen Camera Acting

This advanced course builds on the skills learned in camera training and goes further into the study of continuity between shots, close ups, and more complicated scripts.

Class begins with a review of technical terms from camera training. Advanced teen camera goes further into the nuances of camera acting to study continuity between master shots, two shots, angle shots and close-ups, using more complicated scripts. The student will learn to master hitting invisible marks and matching actions. Students will study advanced terms used on the set that relate to camera operations effecting the actors’ movements.

 

Teen Improvisation – IMPROVTEEN

Improv

KD is excited to bring our successful Improvisation Class to our Teens!

This Improv class will be filled with theatre games and improvisations to help students think on their feet.  They will learn how to develop characters and push themselves further in their acting.  Whether you are ready to grow as an actor or just begin on this journey, the tools and skills you learn in Improvisation will help you with all aspects of acting: auditioning, theatre and stage, commercials and film.

 

Voice-Over Radio Commercials – VOTEEN

Voice-Over Radio Commercials

This course will prepare students for the lucrative field of voice work. Taught by an experienced voice actor/coach, this course trains students for spokesperson, narrator, and character roles.
Learn the ropes of acting “on mic” with a professional engineer and an established voice actor/coach as guides. Course work includes training for a spokesperson, narrator and character roles. Learn about DFW market, the audition, the job, the follow-up, self promotion, the unions and agents. You will come away with a sample of your completed work on a disc. Maximum 8 people.

 

Teen Filmmaking – MPPTEEN

Teen Motion Picture Production

Do you or your teen want to be the next Spielberg? This class is a great place to start! Led by industry professionals, students get a hands-on learning experience.

KD Studio is proud to offer this 2-week digital filmmaking program based on our college filmmaking program. Under the guidance of industry professionals students gain knowledge of filmmaking in a hands-on environment, focusing on screenwriting, directing, producing, and post production. Students will work together to create a short film.

 

Fashion Dimensions: Teen Modeling – FD

Fashion Dimensions: Teen Modeling

Using the latest techniques from modeling professionals, students develop self-image, confidence and their own style. Course includes skin care, runway, makeup, hair care, etiquette, television commercials and photography. Course concludes with a graduation fashion show and photo session with an 8 x 10” color headshot.
